Cool Springs Life Sciences Center Groundbreaking
Franklin, TN--October 8, 2002--The Cool Springs Life Sciences Center will be home to research and development-focused operations for biotech, pharmaceutical and medical device companies and support services, providing companies within the same industry an environment of collaboration and shared resources.
SPECIFICATIONS:
 
  • $74 million investment
  • 10-acre site on Nichol Mill Lane, Franklin, Tenn.
  • State-of-the-art wet labs, clean rooms and common support area
  • Three buildings:
    Building 1: 32,000 sq. ft.; Building 2: 42,000 sq. ft.; Building 3: 60,000 sq. ft

ECONOMIC IMPACT:

 
  • 600 direct and indirect jobs
  • $15 million spendable payroll
  • $1.2 million local tax revenue annually
LEAD TENANTS:
 
  • BioMimetic Pharmaceuticals Inc. - Biopharmaceutical company focused on development and commercialization of protein therapeutics for tissue and organ regeneration (8,000 sq. ft.).

  • Vanderbilt University Medical Center- Will establish a biotech business incubator for sublease to start-up biotech companies (8,000 sq. ft.).

  • VDDI Pharmaceuticals - Developing products for cancer, cardiovascular and infectious disease indications. Awarded $23 million federal grant to develop antibiotics to treat anthrax (2,000 sq. ft. initially, with potential for an additional 2,000 sq. ft.).
